Maldon Splash Park
Places Leisure approached us to help resolve a concern at one of their sites: the filtration pumps at Maldon Splash Park were operating on a single point of failure.

Maldon Splash Park, located within the busy Promenade Park, is a popular family attraction that welcomes over 300,000 visitors a year (Visit Essex). With such high footfall, minimising downtime and maintaining visitor satisfaction was essential, which is why our client at Places Leisure called on us to help. Following a site visit and discussions with the client, we identified that the water feature system was operating with a single point of failure. To reduce risk and improve resilience, we proposed incorporating an additional pump. With the park’s summer opening imminent — and visitor numbers along with system demand set to surge — timing and reliability were critical.

The works had to be completed within a strict window between 17th April and 25th May to ensure the system was fully operational ahead of the park’s grand reopening. That meant securing all materials in advance, managing suppliers closely, and keeping activity on-site tightly coordinated. The project involved full removal of the suction and discharge manifolds, along with pipework adjustments — all of which had to be delivered without delay.
We removed the existing manifolds and supplied & installed a new Certikin pump, along with stainless steel suction and new discharge manifolds. With reliability a top priority for our client, our Operations Manager recommended running the new pump in rotation with the existing one, regularly switching duty to share the load and reduce risk of failure that came with the previous single-pump set-up. We worked in close coordination with pipework supplier YSM on-site and completed testing, commissioning, and clean-down during normal working hours.
